Hallo.

My name is Armin. I am currently working on earning my PHD in theoretical computer science in the TCS Group at the University of Innsbruck. My research focuses on how to automate a type-based amoritized complexity analysis of functional data structures — or in layman terms: on a computer program that proofs how fast a given computer program can run theoretically. As such my main research interests are programming languages and type theory.

The Art of Abstraction.

A memory that has stayed with me vividly is a scene from The Phantom Menace in which Anakin constructs C-3PO. In retrospect, I am fairly sure that this early fascination with Star Wars droids helped steer me toward studying computer science and developing a taste for logic and mathematics—toward, in a sense, making machines think. My research focuses on programming languages, which to me distill the essence of computer science: the combination of elegant mathematical abstractions with practical and impactful applications.

I also practice Zen, and as such I try to approach everything with full attention—whether conducting research, playing with my son, sharpening a kitchen knife, or preparing tea.
